Carcass characteristics of rabbits raised in the semi-arid region of Nigeria

Aims: This study was carried out to investigate the carcass characteristics of male and female rabbits raised in semi-arid condition.Methods Results: Twenty-four (24) rabbits, comprising 12 bucks does, were used for this study. At weeks age, weighed slaughtered. Parameters measured include; pre-slaughter weight (kg), hot (g), four primal cut weights (shoulder, ribs, loin rump), internal organs (liver, lungs, kidneys, hearts, stomach intestines). Sex had non-significant effects on pre-slaughter, cuts rump).Conclusion: Conclusively, sexual dimorphism existed such as; liver, kidneys intestines where higher weights. However, carcass, shoulder, rib, rump not significantly affected by sex, implying that any sex could be safely utilize meat production. Pre-slaughter positively correlated with while negatively intestine.Significance Impact Study: use as selection criterion improvement quality rabbits.
